Fall 2013 Children's Programming Scheduled
The fall special activities planned at Massanutten Regional Library involve events for children ages K-5 and ages 12-17.
Grades 3-6 have a “Stem Saturday @ Your Library” event at North River Library in Bridgewater, 10-11:30 am September 14. With emphasis on science, technology, engineering and math, students will be challenged in many directions at this event.
On the same day at the Main Library in downtown Harrisonburg, parents can discover how chiropractics can help their children's health in the program “Discover Chiropractics @ Your Library.” This event begins at 2 pm. There are also children's activities planned for this time period.
“You Made It! @ Your Library” is slated for Saturday, October 12, 2 pm, at Main. Children will create a fused glass project. Pre-registration is required for this fall event. Call 434.4475, ext. 108, and ask for Claire Covington.
The Hampstead Players, an acting group from New Hampshire, will return to the Shenandoah Valley in November and perform “A Christmas Carol @ Your Library” in five locations.
The actors kick off the traditional Christmas story at Grottoes Library on Thursday, November 7, 4 pm. Page Public Library in Luray will host the acting group on Saturday, November 9, 10 am, and the Village Library will accommodate the actors and the public at the Broadway Community Center the same day at 4 pm.
Scrooge will learn the true meaning of Christmas at Main on Saturday, November 9, 2 pm, and North River Library in Bridgewater will conclude the Christmas performance on Sunday, November 10, 3 pm at the John Wayland Elementary School.
Massanutten Regional Library has also planned for the teen-age group, ages 12-17, for the fall season.
During the week of October 13-19, all branches of MRL will host a scavenger hunt for the teen-agers up to receive a prize.
Teen author Jodi Meadows returns with two author friends to Main on Saturday, October 5, 2 pm to discuss the book publishing benefits.
Pre-registration is required for MRL’s version of its own hunger games. The event, “Teen Dystopia @ Your Library,” is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2 pm. To pre-register, call 434.4475, ext. 107, and ask for Jon Hilbert.
