2/29/2012

The Massanutten Regional Library’s Food for Fines program collected close to 1100 pounds of food during its “Food for Fines” event last month.

MRL’s main branch in Harrisonburg collected 505 pounds of food for Harrisonburg’s Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry while Village Library sent 252 pounds to the Daily Bread Food Pantry in Broadway. Page Public Library sent 124 pounds of canned goods to Page One Food Bank. North River Library in Bridgewater donated 80 pounds of canned food to the Bridgewater Inter-Church Food Bank, and Elkton Community Library and Shenandoah Community Library sent 45 pounds of food each to their food pantry organizations. Grottoes Branch Library of MRL sent 44 pounds of canned food to the Erma Food Pantry, a community outreach organization affiliated with Grottoes United Methodist Church.

The library system accepted non-perishable food items in lieu of fines for overdue materials. The program ran at all MRL locations throughout Rockingham and Page Counties and Harrisonburg City.
