Youth Activities Expanded
The Youth Services Coordinator for Massanutten Regional Library, Clare Eakin, has announced an expansion of the Massanutten Regional Library Lego Club.
“We started a Legos after-school activity here at Main last fall,” says Eakin, “and it was such a big hit that we have ordered more Legos and Mega Blocks for smaller hands and we are expanding the activity to four more MRL branches.”
Beginning in April, the North River Library in Bridgewater will offer Lego Club on the second Tuesday, 4 pm of each month with Main Library’s already scheduled Lego activity on the third Tuesday of each month. Elkton Community Library will pick up Lego Club on the third Wednesday of each month, 4:30 pm, while Grottoes Branch Library will conduct the Lego playtime the fourth Thursday of each month at 4 pm. Lego Club will cease in June through the summer for most of the MRL branches but pick up again in the fall. In September the Village Library will also be joining the other MRL branches in scheduling a Lego Club on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 4 pm.
Eakin emphasizes that even toddlers can participate with grown-up supervision. Massanutten Regional Library has purchased Mega Blocks for toddlers.
Dog 2 Read 2 began at the North River Branch of Massanutten Regional Library last year and has expanded to the Main Branch for 2013. MRL Main invites a therapy dog for children to read to on the first Tuesday, 4 pm, of each month, and North River continues the popular program on Satudays, 11 am, beginning again in May.
For the teen-age set, MRL and Radio Q101 will host a “Spring Fling” at the Main Branch Saturday, April 27, 1-3 pm. Youth ages 12-17 years are invited to participate and check out the new teen room, listen to new tunes, borrow new books, make a T-shirt, and grab some prizes.
All events are free and open to the public. The events are constantly updated and edited on Massanutten Regional Library’s website www.mrlib.org
