MRL Online Resources – Find It Virginia

Find It Virginia is a free online resource that is available to all Virginians and is provided by the Library of Virginia. It acts as a portal to wide range of different online resources for everyone from school children to job seekers. So let’s delve into  all of these great resources that you can find it Find It VA.

Find It Virginia breaks up the resources in a couple of ways, firstly by targeted audience. There are sections for elementary/ middle school students, high school students, and the general public. Each of the school sections have resources that will help students with their homework and increase their knowledge. For instance under the High School tab, there are subject specific online resources that can help students find resources for their research papers.

The Public Libraries tab has resources for a wide range of interests. Job seekers have access to career information and free resume builder (through “Careers and Job Seeking”). Small businesses owners and entrepreneurs can use the Small Business Collection database to find important business research. People researching genealogy have free access to Ancestry for Virginians.

The eBooks tab has links to TumbleBooks and TumbleBooks for Teens. TumbleBooks has interactive books and read along books for kids and TumbleBooks for Teens, which houses graphic novels, enhanced books, and videos. They are great for kids looking to build up their reading skills. The Magazines tab gives access to big name magazines such as Newsweek and The New Yorker, as well as a link to Zinio, a wonderful online magazine resource. Be aware that Zinio (transitioning to being called RBdigital Magazines) requires the creation of a free account and you will need your MRL library card number.

Lastly, there is Homework Help. This is a great resource for students who need help with their homework during the evenings and weekends. Students in grades three through twelve can connect live with a credentialed teacher to help them in subjects such as math, reading, science, writing, and history/social studies.

A key feature of Find It Virginia is that most of the resources within it do not require a library card if you are accessing it through a computer located in Virginia.
