Author Talk: Peggy's War @Plains District Museum
Join our friends at the Plains District Memorial Museum to hear author Karl Rhodes discuss Karl Rhodes his newly released book "Peggy's War." Peggy's War is a fact-based novel based on Karl's great-great-grandmother, Peggy Rhodes, who ran a busy depot on the underground railroad in the Shenandoah Valley during the Civil War. Her underground railroad overlapped occasionally with the one for fugitive slaves, but she mostly protected Mennonites and Dunkers (Brethren) who refused to go to war for religious reasons. Peggy lived near Mole Hill in western Rockingham County. She concealed up to six men at a time under her bedroom floor while her husband was dying of consumption.
Mr. Rhodes will also share information about John Kline during this talk which will be of interest to Shenandoah Valley locals.
