Part-Time Library Assistant
North River Library, Bridgewater, VA

Massanutten Regional Library (MRL) is seeking a part-time employee to fill the position of Library Assistant at the North River Library in Bridgewater, VA.

This position is 20 hours per week and requires working every third Saturday. The week that contains the Saturday shift does not have a Tuesday shift.

Primary duties for this position include providing customer service to library patrons at the circulation desk and on the phone, charging and discharging library materials, issuing library cards, shelving library materials, collecting fees, closing duties, and routine cleaning. The Library Assistant works under the supervision of the Branch Manager.

Applicants must have excellent communication and technology skills, enjoy working with children, and be detail oriented. Candidates with customer service experience preferred. The minimum education requirement is a high school diploma or its equivalent.

The physical demands for this position include the ability to operate a variety of office equipment, standing for long periods, frequent stooping and bending when shelving library materials, and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally, and to push/pull library carts frequently.

The hourly rate of pay for this position is $11.00. This position comes with part-time sick and vacation leave benefits. The target start date for this position is Monday, August 30, 2021.

This position is 15.5 hours per week and requires working every third Saturday. The week that contains the Saturday shift does not have a Friday shift.

Library Director
Central Library, Harrisonburg, VA

Massanutten Regional Library’s (MRL) Board of Trustees seeks a personable, energetic, and skilled leader to serve as the Library Director for the Massanutten Regional Library system located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Seven library locations serve a population of over 159,000 with an annual circulation of more than 515,000. MRL has twenty full-time employees, twenty-seven part-time employees, and a $2.5+ million annual operating budget.

The Library Director serves as the chief executive officer of the library and is responsible for the administration of all library functions within the goals, guidelines, and policies established by the Board of Trustees. The Director is also responsible for the facilities, financial management, and personnel of the library, under the governance and oversight of the Board.

The successful candidate will embrace the role of being the face of the library to our local communities, create a welcoming culture for internal and external stakeholders, have hands-on management experience, possess dynamic leadership skills, have the ability to implement focused activities to achieve the goals set forth in the strategic plan, and be a strong steward of MRL’s resources. The Director is a role model within the organization and must maintain a positive attitude, an innovative mindset, and foster open communication and interaction with the staff and community.

This is a full-time exempt position working under the direction of the Board of Trustees. While much of this job will be completed during normal business hours (8:30 am – 5 pm), some evening and weekend work will be required.
