Book a Librarian

Book a librarian for up to an hour-long appointment, personalized to meet your information needs. These appointments are available at the Central Library in Harrisonburg, VA. These sessions are designed to provide one-on-one instruction of library resources or technology questions. Simply fill out the form below or call the Reference Desk at 540-434-4475 ext. 122. One of our Reference Librarians will contact you to set up a free one-hour session.

What type of information and assistance is provided?
·         Researching a topic, including instruction on our subscription databases
·         Instruction on how to access our downloadable media resources such as eBooks and Audiobooks.
·         Consumer research on specific products
·         Local history and genealogy research resources
·         Instruction and assistance with the use of Library resources

Is there anything that the librarian cannot help me with?
We cannot offer advice (medical, legal, investment, tax preparation). We cannot type or proofread your document, resume, cover letter, etc. We also cannot provide computer help or troubleshoot technology issues not related to our resources.

Do you provide help with genealogy research?
We walk through with you the local genealogy and history resources that are available at Massanutten Regional Library including a walkthrough of our Genealogy room. We also provide training on how to use our microfilm readers and the online databases HeritageQuest and Newsbank (which provide access to The Daily News Record and The Page News & Courier)

Who will be helping me?
We will look at your appointment request and determine the best librarian to meet with you based on expertise and availability.

How long will the appointment be?
Each appointment may last up to one hour. Additional appointments can be requested with a maximum of one appointment per week.

How do I make an appointment?
Complete the form with as much information as possible. Let us know what you would like help with and a time that is convenient for you. We will get in touch with you to confirm the appointment as soon as possible. We require at least 24 hours advance notice.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Please bring your library card. If the appointment covers how to use our downloadable media or online resources please bring any computer or mobile device you would like to use these resources on. Note: Our downloadable media resources require an application to be installed on any mobile devices you wish to use them on. Most mobile app stores such as iTunes require a login. Please have the login information with you if you do not have it memorized.

How do I check in for my appointment?
Visit the Reference Desk on the second floor of the Central Library. The Reference librarian will meet you there and direct you to the area you will be using.

I need to cancel my appointment. What’s the best way to do this?
No problem! Just call the Reference Desk at 540-434-4475 x122. We will help you reschedule your appointment. Or email us at If possible please let us know at least 24 hours ahead of the appointment time.

Are there other ways to get help from a librarian?
