About Us

MRL's COVID-19 Response

MRL’s priority during the COVID-19 pandemic has been, and remains, the health and safety of our staff and the communities which we serve. MRL will continue to monitor CDC and state guidelines, as well as local vaccination and COVID-19 infection rates, and will communicate future changes as deemed necessary. Thank you for your understanding and consideration during this time of change. We are grateful for your support!

At-Home COVID-19 Tests

Does the library currently have COVID-19 tests available?
Central Library in Harrisonburg and Page Public Library in Luray currently have Flowflex COVID-19 Antigen Home Tests available.

When our stock becomes depleted, a blue alert message will appear at our mrlib.org home page to inform you before you come in. Please check there first. We thank you for your understanding that free tests may not always be available due to community demand and or shipping delays from VDH.

Who is eligible to get a test?
Any community member may pick up a test. No library card, driver’s license, or identification of any kind is required. Because of limited supplies, tests are limited to 2 per community member. These tests are intended for individuals. Schools, businesses, and other groups in need of test kits should contact VDH about alternative methods of acquiring test kits.

How can I get a test?
If you don't have symptoms, please ask for a test at the Circulation desk or Reference desk at Central Library or Page Public Library.

Central Library: If you have symptoms or have been exposed to COVID-19, please come to the back door of Central Library with the striped awning on Federal Street. When you arrive, call the phone number on the door to speak with the reference department. Please remain in your car while a staff member places your test on the table next to the back door.

Page Public Library: If you have symptoms or have been exposed to COVID-19, please stay in your car. When you arrive, call 540-434-4475 ext. 500. Roll down your back passenger side window or pop your trunk and we will place it inside for you.

When should I pick up a test?
Pickup is available during  library regular operating hours. The tests do expire, so you should plan to use the test within 2 weeks of picking it up.

What do I need to take the test?
Everything you need to take the test is in the box. To protect our staff and community, you should take your test at home.

How does the test work?
Library staff members are not medical professionals. If you have any questions about how to take the test or how it works, please contact the Virginia COVID Information Center by calling 1-877-829-4682 or visiting www.vdh.virginia.gov/covid19testing.

Do the tests expire? According to VDH and CDC guidelines, the ACON Flowflex test kits expiration dates have been extended to February or March 2024 (depending on lot number) and are effective to use through the new, extended date. For more information on the Flowflex kits and expiration dates, please visit: https://flowflexcovid.com.
