Outreach Services

Reading is a lifeline that connects people to information they need and stimulation they crave. For homebound, elderly and disabled people, a good book can be as important as a good friend.

The library offers a number of services for those who are unable make it in to one of our branches. These services include:

  • Books-by-Mail – A free service that provides books to individuals who are not able to visit the library due to a physical long- or short-term disability, illness, age-related challenges, or those without adequate means of transportation.
  • Deposit Collections – A rotating collection of regular and large print books is provided to institutions, such as nursing homes or adult life care facilities. These institutions work with our outreach personnel to choose books. They are checked out to the institution for four weeks and then rotated.

We also offer outreach programming for children:

  • Children’s Programming – A monthly story time provided for area preschools and daycares by the Youth Services Department. A collection of books is checked out to the institution and rotated on a monthly basis.
