For kids ages 5-11:

What if you wanted to make a play? If you've seen a show at a traditional theater, you might imagine that you'd need curtains, lights, and a stage. What if you didn't have any of that? Can you still make a play? What if all you have to work with is just the contents of your own bedroom, your mom's purse, or your pockets?

Professional theater artists actually work exactly this way, using a set of tools called "devised theater!" Local professional theater Silk Moth Stage uses devised theater techniques to create plays in unusual environments, without any fancy equipment. Using things you probably have around the house, they create magical environments, from a pirate ship to a painter's studio. In their upcoming play, The Wanting Forest, they'll create an underground mushroom kingdom, an ocean, a mountaintop, and a forest glade!

Join the teaching artists of Silk Moth Stage for an exploration of theater-making using just what we have. Through a series of games and challenges, kids will work with a team to create an environment and place a story inside of it! How would you create the mushroom kingdom with fabric, noisemakers, and collaboration? What movement can build the ocean? We can't wait to find out!

Registration is required, so click the "Register Now" button to save a spot. We'd also like to give a special thank you to the Arts Council of the Valley for their support in bringing this wonderful program to life!
