Appalachian Storytelling @Central Library
Kids ages 6 and up: you may know the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, but have you heard of Jack and Granny Witch, or of Jack marrying a princess by chopping wood? Join MaKayla, our Youth Services Specialist, for interactive Jack Tales set in the Blue Ridge Mountains!
About Jack Tales:
English and Scots-Irish immigrants arrived in the Shenandoah Valley in the 18th century, bringing stories from the old countries. Jack Tales, while most popular in the Appalachian Mountains, focus around a young boy who finds himself in the most peculiar predicaments. As a child, MaKayla listened to Jack Tales on cassette tape and later learned the art of storytelling while working at the Frontier Culture Museum as a costumed interpreter.
