Reaching Across the Racial Divide

Thursday, March 24, 2022
7:00 pm8:30 pm

What happens when a White woman (Phoebe), contacts a Black woman (Betty), saying she suspects they are connected through slavery? Betty responds, “Hello, Cousin” and a beautiful and healing relationship begins.

MRL is excited to partner with Eastern Mennonite University’s Center for Justice & Peacebuilding to present a powerful in-person program with authors Betty Kilby Baldwin and Phoebe Kilby as they discuss their 2021 book Cousins: Connected Through Slavery, A Black woman and a White woman discover their past - and each other.

Come learn how the authors discovered their family connections through slavery and embarked on a path toward reconciliation and reparation. Participants will learn ways that we all can reach across the racial divide and work toward racial reconciliation, whether or not your family has connections to slavery. There will be a moderated question and answer period after the author presentation.

Advance registration is required to ensure safe pandemic distancing at the event. Additionally, all attendees are required to wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status, per MRL pandemic protocols for indoor programming. Thank you!
