Massanutten Regional Library’s annual Summer Reading Program returns this summer with the theme “Tails & Tales.” From June 7- August 14, 2021, all seven MRL branches will encourage Valley residents of all ages to join them in reading, attending virtual programming, and celebrating the importance of reading in a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Participants may sign up at www.mrlib.org/srp and log their reading through an online program called READsquared.
Initially designed to combat the learning loss experienced by many children during the summer school holidays, MRL’s Summer Reading Program now encourages children and adults to read all summer long through creative and enjoyable library-based events as well as a summer reading challenge. Participants are eligible for prize drawings throughout the summer, thanks to generous support from local business partners.
Summer Reading Program highlights also include virtual craft opportunities for children and adults, special “Tails & Tales” children’s story times, adult book talks, virtual programs from the Wildlife Center of Virginia and the Frontier Culture Museum, a virtual performance from beloved children’s musical performer “Mr. Jon” and more. All events are free and open to the public.
MRL’s Summer Reading Program receives support from dozens of local businesses and organizations, and is made financially possible through generous support from the following sponsors: Kiwanis Club of Harrisonburg, Summit Community Bank, Rockingham Insurance, LD&B Insurance and Financial Services, BotkinRose PLC, DuPont Community Credit Union, and F&M Bank.
