MRL Names Dean as New Branch Manager of Grottoes Branch Library

Massanutten Regional Library (MRL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Dean as Branch Manager of the Grottoes Branch Library.  In her new role, Dean will oversee branch operations, including programming, collection development, and patron services, while strengthening partnerships with local organizations and community groups. She succeeds Peggy Counts, who retired in December 2025 after more than 20 years of dedicated service to the Grottoes community.

Dean joined MRL in 2020 as a Library Assistant at the Grottoes Branch. Under Counts’ leadership, she gained experience in branch operations and developed a reputation for providing thoughtful, welcoming support to patrons of all ages. “I learned how to service the needs of our patrons, and build a solid place for the community,” she said.

Reflecting on her transition into the Branch Manager role, Dean shared, “I wanted to continue the care and devotion that our patrons deserve and have been receiving for the last 25 years. My biggest goal is to initiate more adult programming and community outreach and participation. Grottoes is a wonderful community and I would like to offer programs and services to meet the needs of that community.”

Library Director Zach Elder expressed enthusiasm about Dean’s appointment. “She provides wonderful readers’ advisory services for all ages, and because of her prior experience at the Grottoes Branch, she has built relationships with everyone who has come through its doors. If you haven’t visited the Grottoes Branch, or you want to know what’s new at MRL, I would encourage you to visit and get to know Sarah.”

With Dean’s leadership, the Grottoes Branch Library will continue to serve as a vital hub for learning, connection, and community engagement.
