Embryology Station Installed at Massanutten Regional Library’s Village Library

The Virginia Cooperative Extension’s 4-H Office brings an Embryology Station to Village Library, a Massanutten Regional Library branch in Broadway, VA. This educational initiative will offer patrons the opportunity to learn about the life cycle of chickens through observing their eggs during the 21-day incubation period.

“We are so excited to partner with the Virginia Cooperative Extension’s 4-H Office!” Branch Manager Barbara Andes said. “Through the station, we will be able to watch up close as chicks go through their 21-day life cycle from eggs to hatchlings. We are really looking forward to having a front-row seat as we witness these amazing real-life transformations!”

In addition to the incubator, the Virginia Cooperative Extension created a small exhibit with educational resources for visitors to explore all stages of chicken development, including a Chick Life Cycle Exploration Set, which allows patrons to see the inside of an egg at each stage of development before hatching, and worksheets that encourage future learning.

The Embryology Station will remain on display at Village Library in Broadway for the duration of the incubation period, which should be complete around October 12.
