Massanutten Regional Library’s annual Fandom Fest returns Saturday, November 7 from 10AM to 3PM at Central Library in Downtown Harrisonburg. This free, family-friendly event will feature local vendors and exhibitors, activities for all ages, exciting speakers including Origami Yoda series author Tom Angleberger, and a Cosplay Contest.
"Libraries are the ultimate spaces for imagination, which makes Central Library in Harrisonburg the perfect venue for a pop culture celebration," said co-organizers, Dallas Hetrick, Grace Villanueva, and Rebecca Laura. "Fandom Fest is our way of opening the library’s doors to celebrate the vibrant, creative, and passionate communities right here in our neighborhood. From hands-on crafting and interactive gaming to showcasing local artists and vendors, this event is designed to inspire creativity and provide a welcoming space for everyone. It’s an opportunity for families and fans of all skill levels to come together, express themselves through cosplay, and discover that the library is a dynamic place where all passions are welcome."
The Fandom Fest Cosplay Contest is open to individuals and groups of all ages and skill levels. Prizes are offered for winners. Those competing are asked to register in advance through submitting our entry form and to review our Props Policy. All patrons are encouraged to dress up as their favorite characters, even if they are not interested in competing.
"We are very excited to grow the Cosplay Contest with even more categories this year. We really want to encourage fans to celebrate the media they love regardless of skill level, while also giving them a chance to showcase their interpretations of a character," said Hetrick. "One of my favorite aspects of cosplay is getting to take an image or idea and bring it to life with its own personality. Even if two people use the exact same fabric, pattern, or purchased costume, the way they wear it is unique and exciting!"
This year, Tom Angleberger, author of the Origami Yoda series, Rocket & Groot, Star Wars: The Mighty Chewbacca in the Forest of Fear, the graphic novel series Two-Headed Chicken, and more, will lead an interactive "Fold a Galaxy" session. He will also be available to sign books patrons bring with them or purchase from Parentheses Books onsite. In the afternoon, patrons can enjoy a panel on D&D featuring professor Josh Fairfield. Vendors and exhibitors for MRL's 2026 Fandom Fest include Secret Lair Comics, Wizard Mode Brewcade, Rocktown Games, Watchtower Games, Horizon Gifts & Board Games, Zorn Vongal, and Geeky Trinkets.
